Headliners

So very often, the wedding day just whizzes by for many couples. Caught up in the anticipation, coupled with some 'butterflies in the stomach' and the subsequent euphoria, not to mention accepting congratulations, hugs and kisses from well wishers, many a bride and groom have lamented the fact that their wedding day was more like a whirlwind of activities. Although elated at being united as man and wife, it is only when looking at photos and viewing the wedding video, do they actually recollect the many wonderful moments experienced during that very special day.

Photographs aside, the wedding video serves as a true testament of the wedding. The audio-visual nature of a wedding video communicates the entire scope of emotions of the wedding via the senses of sight and sound. While photos capture a particular moment in time, a video captures the unfolding of the day's events 'live'. It is therefore perhaps worthwhile, to consider allocating a portion of one's budget to documenting such an important milestone.

A couple of pointers :

  • There are many videographers in the market with varying styles. As such, do make it a point to meet with at least a few of them and more importantly, view their work.

  • Cost may run from the hundreds to the thousands. Whilst it is not always true that 'the most expensive is the best', one would have to be realistic with one's budget. Always consider styling, equipment, flexibility in terms of duration of the shoot and the final product you wish to achieve as well. One thing's for sure, you can't possibly have your cake and eat it! Some compromise as well as give-and-take will be necessary when deciding on your videographer.

  • Paying attention to detail is a trait of a good videographer. So, do make a note of how attentive each service provider is when you meet with them. Do they ask pointed questions? Are the questions relevant? How much interest do they show in the schedule of events for the day? Do they make an effort to find out who the important people are, and what are the details you want to capture?

  • Having shortlisted your choices, do meet the candidates again to see if there is any chemistry before making your final decision.

A great wedding video, be it in the form of a VHS, VCD or DVD, is something to be cherished for a lifetime. It will also be a good opportunity to gather friends and relatives for a viewing, post-wedding, and have a few laughs.

Tip : Find out how many personnel will be sent to cover your wedding. Two videographers are always better than one, when it comes to capturing different angles and a large crowd.
