Selecting a makeup artist and hairstylist to prepare you for possibly one of the most meaningful days of your life is no mean feat. The market abounds with many skilled artists, but finding the one that 'gels' with you 'personality-wise' while also in possession of the adequate skills to turn you into a stunning and resplendent bride takes some careful research.

Some pointers :

• Ask friends for recommendations.
  
• Make a list of potential contacts collated from magazines and the Internet.
  
• Speak to them over the phone and then make it a point to meet shortlisted candidates personally and view their portfolio.
  
• Have a trial makeup and hairdo session.
  
• Study the packages offered carefully to see what's included and what's not i.e. are there any extra charges involved?
  
• Make up your mind on who to appoint and pay a deposit to secure the date.

Ensure that the selected artist allocates the entire wedding day to you only i.e. she will only cater to you on your wedding day.

Trial sessions :

• Do have trial sessions with at least 2 service providers in order to make a comparison.
• Share all your ideas but do be receptive to input from the professionals.

Bring along photos of your outfits to give the makeup artist and hairstylist an idea of what you will be wearing.
